The Cloudflare Workers Platform is a V8 edge runtime running JavaScript services at tens of millions of RPS. Its API layer consists of over 1,000 TypeScript interfaces, covering the full suite of Cloudflare products from Durable Objects, Storage, and Containers to AI bindings, as well as fully user-customizable JS RPC between Workers.
We’ve recently undertaken an effort to modernize our WebAssembly-based Rust Workers including building more seamless, automated Rust bindings for our JavaScript-based APIs. Collaborating within the Wasm Bindgen project, we’ve been able to make major improvements such as TypeScript-style generic JS typing and resilient error recovery with panic=unwind support and recoverable aborts. In this talk, we’ll share the details of these new improvements that we’ve been able to contribute back to the Wasm Bindgen ecosystem, along with an early-stage preview of our upcoming Rust Workers SDK.
